DELICIOUS QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What is a pound cake?
A pound cake refers to a type of cake originally made with one pound each of flour, sugar, butter and eggs. Often a little vanilla or lemon was added for flavor. Over the years, bakers have altered the recipe to include leavenings such as baking powder or baking soda, and to replace the butter with oil.

At The Stonehouse Bakery, we went back to the traditional recipe of flour, sugar, butter and eggs, adjusting the proportions for our high altitude. The result is a moist, dense, fine-textured cake that can be eaten plain or used to create trifles and other decadent desserts!

What are the sizes of your Stonehouse Bakery pound cakes?
We bake our pound cakes in four sizes. The Baby Bundts each weigh five to seven ounces. The Small Bundts each weigh 16 to 18 ounces. The Medium Bundts and the Loaves each weigh approximately two to two and a half pounds. The Large Bundts weigh about four to four and a half pounds.

How many people does one Stonehouse Bakery pound cake serve?
The Baby Bundt serves 2-3. The Small Bundt serves 4-5. The Medium Bundt and Loaf each offer approximately 8–10 servings. The large Bundt serves 16-20.

What kinds of ingredients are used in Stonehouse Bakery pound cakes?
We use the finest ingredients from local sources to produce our amazing pound cakes. Oakdell Egg Farms produces our eggs. Meadow Gold Dairy supplies our fresh cream and buttermilk, and the Gilt Edge Flour Mill provides our unbleached flour.

In addition, we use the best extracts, sugars, chocolates and spices, including:

  • Nielsen Massey Madagascar Pure Vanillas
  • C&H Pure Cane Sugars
  • Callebaut Chocolate
  • Guittard Chocolate
  • Wayzata Bay Spices
  • La Baleine Sea Salt
